Country Walk is a deed-restricted community of 1,280 acres with 1,606 homes, six sub-associations and one master association. The homes are not all the same. The Arvida Corporation designed and built Country Walk. The first homes went up in 1978 and the last were finished in 1994. Hurricane Andrew struck in August 1992, in the middle of that period, and destroyed about 90% of the 1,700 homes then standing. Owners later sued the developer over shoddy construction. The rebuilt homes use concrete walls in place of the wood frames that failed. For floors, this means most garages here sit in homes from the rebuilding years or later.
