Work Floors Around the Air Reserve Base
Epoxy flooring in Homestead Base is mostly about work floors. The census-designated place is made up of Homestead Air Reserve Base plus some surrounding land, about 4.35 square miles in all. Only 999 people lived here in 2020, in 96 households. So unlike most of our service area, the floors here are mainly shops, storage buildings and work areas, with a small number of homes.
A base that was rebuilt
The site was named Homestead Army Air Field on September 16, 1942, and opened that November as a ferry airfield during World War II. Hurricane Andrew destroyed much of what was then Homestead Air Force Base in 1992. Most of its roughly 2,000 buildings were severely damaged or left unusable, and the base was recommended for closure. Instead, it was kept and realigned. In 1994 it moved to Air Force Reserve control. Today it hosts the 482nd Fighter Wing, which flies F-16C/D aircraft. Its runway is 11,201 feet of concrete.
What working floors face here
Floors around an airfield and its support buildings deal with:
- Fuel, hydraulic fluid and oil drips
- Heavy rolling loads such as carts, tool chests and lifts
- Frequent cleaning with degreasers
- Heat and humidity in buildings with big open doors
Bare concrete soaks up fluids and turns dark and slick. A sealed floor keeps spills on the surface so they can be cleaned up.
Systems for shops and storage
For this kind of space we install commercial and shop floor epoxy: a thick 100% solids base, an optional quartz or flake broadcast for grip, and a chemical-resistant topcoat. Where doors stay open to the sun, the topcoat is UV-stable so it does not yellow. Line striping for walkways, work zones and parking can go in at the same time. For areas that can only close briefly, a polyaspartic floor coating cures faster.
Access and site rules
Work on or near a military installation comes with its own access, safety and scheduling requirements. Those rules are set by the property, not by us. If you manage a building in this area, tell us what your site requires, such as escort, badging, insurance paperwork or work hours, and we will plan the job to fit. If a project needs approvals we cannot meet, we will say so at the start.
Homes near the base
Many people who work at the base live in nearby Homestead, Leisure City and Florida City. For those homes we coat garages, lanais and pool decks. Our usual choices are an epoxy flake floor or a garage floor coating with a UV-stable topcoat, and patio and pool deck coatings for outdoor slabs. For military families who move often, a coated garage can also be a plus when it is time to sell or rent the home.
Low, flat ground
The area sits about 7 feet above sea level on flat land. Slabs on low ground can collect water at doorways and pick up moisture from below in the wet season. We take a moisture reading and check drainage before we recommend a system.
Starting the job
We walk the building, measure, check moisture and note fluids used on the floor. Then we put the system, prep and schedule in writing for your review.
Bays with lifts and striping
Lift posts carry heavy point loads, so we use a thicker base and check the concrete beneath them first. Painted or coated lines for walkways and work zones can go in during the same job so they bond with the floor.

Homestead Base Questions
Do you work on buildings on the base itself?
Work inside a military installation depends on that site's access and contracting rules. Tell us what the property requires and we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it. We also coat shops and storage buildings outside the gate.
Which coating holds up to fuel and hydraulic fluid?
A 100% solids epoxy base with a chemical-resistant topcoat handles routine drips well. Spills should still be wiped up promptly. We match the topcoat to the fluids you use and give you cleaning guidance.
Can a coated floor handle a vehicle lift?
Yes, with the right system. Lift posts bear heavy point loads, so we use a thicker base and check the concrete under the posts. If the slab is thin or cracked where a lift will sit, we will tell you before coating.
