Richmond West began as an early 1900s settlement called Eureka. A one-room schoolhouse opened in 1907 at Naranja Road and Eureka Drive. The area stayed mostly agricultural until the mid-1980s. Then subdivisions and a mobile home park went up south of Coral Reef Drive. Hurricane Andrew destroyed the mobile home park in 1992 and devastated the area. Rebuilding followed, and development pushed south to Eureka Drive.
